At Open Door Church, we believe in serving others as Christ served, and Slingin’ Biscuits is one of our cherished opportunities to share His love in action. Under the guidance of ministry originator Tracy Detter, this outreach focuses on meeting a basic need with warmth, kindness, and the love of Jesus.

Slangin' Biscuits: Serving a Hot Meal with Warm Hearts

Slangin’ Biscuits is a ministry dedicated to showing Christ’s love through the simple act of sharing a warm meal. Meeting on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturdays (if applicable) of each month at 6:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall at Open Door Church, our volunteers come together to prepare hearty breakfast biscuits, fresh coffee, and juices to serve to those in need within our local community. Through these simple acts, we aim to reflect the biblical example of Christ’s servant-hearted love.

What We Do

In the early morning hours, volunteers gather to bake and assemble breakfast biscuits with care. Once everything is prepared, we load up the hot meals and head out to nearby homeless shelters, where we serve those facing hardship a nourishing breakfast. For many, this hot meal is more than food—it’s a reminder that they are seen, valued, and loved by God and their community.

It’s more than just providing a meal; it’s about building relationships, showing compassion, and demonstrating God’s care for everyone. Volunteers are always welcome to join in, whether by preparing food, pouring coffee, or offering a kind word to those we serve. By being part of this ministry, you can bring hope and encouragement to those experiencing homelessness, one meal at a time.
